On 04/25/06 the Boy Scouts were asked to write an essay on what they liked about scouting and why they would recommend other boys to join:

Boy Scouts can be applied to all aspects of life. I would recommend scouting to all individuals, not just young males, but young females as well. Scouting gives the individual life skills. These skills build character and help the individual to grow. As the individual grows they get the chance to learn and meet new friends. To me, scouting is an essential part of my life. It teaches me and gives me leadership skills. Scouting is for everyone and those who joint, scouting will learn more and see more. I think that more people should join scouting. It will help them in some way and even if they do not stay, it will change their lives and show them more.

I want more people to be encouraged to join Boy Scouts. They should be able to do more things with fire and knives correctly and prepare meals out of what you have. We are able to have the experience of roughing it in the woods and getting to know your troop mates.

I joined Boy Scouts for the brotherhood of the scouts who have the same interests as I. We will gain experience that I can use later in life. I have gained friends that I will have for the rest of my life.

The reason I joined Boy Scouts is because I like to come and hang with friends. I like to learn new skills. I also like taking those long trips. I also like to eat the food.

I like Boy Scouts because it is a great social experience for a person. I come to Boy Scouts because I learn something. You get to do a lot of things with nature. The things you use in Boy Scouts, you use later in life.

I like Boy Scouts because you can go on campouts. You are able to make new friends and to learn about skills I can use. We are also able to camp in different places and to be able to help other people that need it......and to go to summer camp.

The reason I'm in Boy Scouts is because I like to go camping. I also like it because it's fund. I like learning about nature and stuff. Being in Boy Scouts also lets me be with my friends.

I like Boy Scouts because you can learn different things that can help you in life. It can change you and you can have a lot of fun while doing it. You go on campouts, fundraisers or anything your troop can afford. You also make many other friends in your troop. The Boy Scouts is a great experience and you can help by joining.

I am in Boy Scouts because I love being outdoors. I especially like being out in a canoe fishing when the sun comes up and hear the lone cry of a loon. And all the great friendships that are made. The Boy Scouts is also a great organization that teaches you great qualities and gives you opportunities that anyone else would ever get.

I like Boy Scouts because I like the learning experience, because you will use it later in life and it is a good thing to have in your application for a job. It is a great way to explore and have a good experience. It is a great way to learn the basic survival skills you get to do what other people won't have the chance to.
