Let me introduce myself. My name is Veronica (Vicki) Taylor and I love computers. I have had the opportunity to retire from my career of 20 years, which I loved and enjoyed in order to pursue another dream, which was my degree at SUNY Morrisville in Computer Systems Technology.

I have been working with the public for over 20 years in the medical environment. I know how frustrating teaching yourself can be, as well as going into fast paced classrooms and becoming overwhelmed with today’s technological advancements.

For the past 15 years, I have had the opportunity to own several types of computers in my home. Yes, I owned several 5 ¼ floppy disks. The Tandy computer, I thought, was the greatest invention. I thought it couldn’t be too hard to learn. This was the next best thing to Atari and Colecovision. I’m dating myself.

I used to be intimidated by home computers and the World Wide Web, when I first started. Yes, I mean everything. I needed a computer to get my work done but did not have anyone to hold my hand to through the difficult tasks.

Times have certainly changed. We had Windows 95 and now Windows XP. What a challenge for us all. For me the opportunity of being able to pursue a career was not demanded upon me. With businesses having to downsize and the economy, employees are faced with retraining in an entirely different field than they were use to.
